Phase III and Beyond

With every phase and recce of the Kota Mama Expedition more evidence and ideas are found. This has led to more phases being planned for the Expedition. Future phases will explore further routes within South America and beyond.

Research into a west to east crossing of the Atlantic by traditional craft continues and it is likely that this will be the 5th and final phase of Kota Mama in 2003.

From Buenos Aires on the shores of the River Plate, latitude 35 degrees South, a balsa raft of traditional design will follow the rising sun due east to the southern tip of the African continent, terminating in Cape Town.

The Kota Mama Expedition aims to enhance Anglo-Latin American relations and following the success of the earlier programmes it is to continue the satellite phone link between schools in South America, Britain and Europe. This coupled with the website: http://kota-mama.awc.co.uk is proving to be an excellent way to bring young people of both sides of the Atlantic together. But above all, this is a voyage of discovery and one of the largest expeditions to be mounted by Britain in the past hundred years.
